The Landscape Recovery scheme is one of three new environmental land management schemes to be introduced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The scheme will support the restoration of landscapes and natural ecosystems through various long term projects such as large scale woodland creation and peatland and salt marsh restoration. A pilot of around 10 projects will begin in 2022 with a view to launch in 2024.

The scheme is for farmers and land managers in England with sites between 500 to 5,000 connected hectares. Defra are encouraging those that are eligible to attend upcoming talks which will discuss the aims of the projects and the bidding process in the autumn for the first wave of pilot projects. The initial pilot projects will primarily focus on restoring threatened native species (birds and insects), restoring streams and rivers and will include a general drive to reduce carbon emissions.
