Changes to the CDM Regulations are likely to affect the work of any person who is involved in the supervision of contractors in construction work.
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (SI 2015/51) came into force on 6th April 2015 replacing the 2007 Regulations.
The key changes are:
- The Regulations will apply to all clients, both domestic and non-domestic. Although, domestic clients will be able to pass most of their statutory duties onto a designer or contractor.
- The designer will be expected to take on the role of co-ordinating health and safety matters for the project. The post of CDM Co-ordinator has therefore been removed.
- Where there is more than one contractor involved, a principal designer and a principal contractor must be appointed in writing before the construction phase begins.
- A project must be notified to HSE if it is scheduled to last longer than 30 days and have more than 20 people working on site simultaneously, or if it would exceed 500 man days in total. It is the client's responsibility to notify HSE where
