‘The only way is Chelmsford’

18 February 2019

Having been in Chelmsford looking after our clients for over 250 years we always knew it’s the place to be, both to live and to work.

In last week’s Sunday Times in an article entitled ‘Going Places’, Chelmsford was described as top for schools and shopping, with an easy commute to the City and beyond.

Originally known as Caesaromagnus (Caesar’s market place), Chelmsford was effectively a small market town serving Romans on their travels between London and Colchester.

Well now it’s a City with a reputation to match. It is often described as a commuter town with swift access by rail to Stratford, Canary Wharf and London Liverpool Street. But London is only part of the journey. The M25 is just over 13 miles away, both Stansted and Southend Airports around 30 minutes’ drive, and let’s not forget Essex has two international ports.

Education… Most if not all schools in and around Chelmsford appear very high in OFSTED ratings. King Edward VI Grammar School (KEGS) and The County High School for Girls (CCHS) are a particular draw, especially for parents with high aspirations for their offspring. Then there are the internationally renowned Felsted School and New Hall School, both short drives away.

A place to live… Whilst house prices are never cheap, Chelmsford has always offered better value for money compared to the neighbouring London boroughs. The city have been rapidly expanding over recent years with new and exciting residential developments creating in some instances a semi-rural lifestyle with all the benefits of easy access to London..

Gepp Solicitors' Conveyancing Department has been helping generations of clients move into and around this sought after City. If you are thinking of moving into/ around Chelmsford, or in fact moving anywhere, click here to get a full breakdown of all known legal costs.

A place to work… With the recent formation of ‘One Chelmsford’, a Business Improvement District (BID), Chelmsford has truly upped its game when it comes to office and retail. The obvious impact of Bond Street and the inevitable draw of John Lewis has made Chelmsford the place to shop and work.
