In a report published by the BBC, hundreds of new drivers have been given automatic driving bans for using their mobile phones whilst at the wheel of their car.

The punishment for this offence was doubled in March of this year from three to six points – meaning drivers with less than two years experience faced a ban.

If a driver receives six points within the first two years of passing their test, they automatically lose their licence. There have been approximately 290 new UK drivers disqualified in the last six months.
