New tax year, new you

It is now roughly a month after the end of the 2017/18 tax year and HMRC have issued their notices to file a tax return to many individuals, trustees and partnerships. Most people habitually file these away for a rainy day and remember around Christmas time that they need to file their returns by 31 January. Time is, of course, very precious to most people and there are much better things to do in the summer than complete a tax return.

But why wait? By submitting your tax return early you confirm your tax liabilities with plenty of time before payment is needed, or get any refund due earlier than you would have otherwise. The ever changing tax rules mean you can’t always prepare your return on the same basis as last year and doing so can create unnecessary problems and delays.

Using a professional to prepare your tax return for you, or your trust or partnership, can help alleviate the stress of making sure your forms are accurate and in line with current legislation. Gepp & Sons can assist you with your tax returns and any other tax or legal questions you may have so why not give us a call and see how we can help the new you, in the new tax year.

This is not legal advice; it is intended to provide information of general interest about current legal issues.
