The importance of having preparations in place...
Like most people around the world, I was shocked and upset earlier this week by the scenes coming from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. For me, Paris is one of my favourite cities and I believe that the beauty of the Notre Dame characterises the beauty of city it stands so proudly in.
I have been lucky enough to see the Notre Dame in all its glory on multiple occasions and I had assumed that when I next return to Paris that it would still be there in that same glory. Not for one second did I even consider that a building that has stood through more than 670 years would not be there as I had remembered it.
The events this week serve as a stark reminder that many things are finite.
Just like the events at the Notre Dame, unforeseen events can occur in our own lives. I see on a daily basis how health scares, Alzheimer's, dementia and death, among others, can have such a shocking and upsetting effect on people's life. We, just like the Notre Dame, are finite and it is for this reason that I would always recommend people consider putting appropriate provisions in place to ensure that, when the unforeseen occurs, those around you can be just that little more prepared.
Whether that be a Will, a Lasting Power of Attorney or both, I have seen first-hand how having appropriate provisions in place can be invaluable.
