Planning to Avert Disaster

I, like many others, have recently watched the Netflix documentary David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet. If you have not yet seen it, I would urge you to do so, especially as it has the potential to be life changing.

Without giving too much away, the documentary highlights how a lack of planning and foresight has caused us jeopardise both the future of our planet and human life itself , while going on to highlight changes that we can make now to avert the disaster that is fast approaching our world.

As a Private Client solicitor, the concept of planning and thinking ahead is something I am a big advocate for. Whether it is preparing a Will, a Lasting Power of Attorney or seeking Estate Planning and Inheritance Tax advice, we can endeavour to avoid stress, upset and frustration for the generations that come after us.

A large part of Private Client Law is about safeguarding your estate for your children and future generations, ensuring that the action we take now will make things easier for them in the future.

Especially when it comes to the environmental disaster that we are facing, I have heard many people say that it won't be their problem as they will be long gone by the time we are beyond the point of no return. However, I rarely speak to a client that takes the opinion that "they will be gone" so it "won't be their problem" when it comes to looking at their estate and, for those estates that have taken a contentious turn, I can only imagine the upset it would cause if they were still around to see it.

Whether it is our estate or if it is a bigger issue such as the environment, we want to ensure that we leave future generations in the best position possible to thrive. Therefore, I would urge you to watch A Life on Our Planet and listen to David's plan for the future. I would urge you to think of what changes can be made to safeguard the future and our planet. Then, if you have time after all of that, why don't you have a quick look at your Will and Estate Planning and see if you need to get in touch to ensure that your estate is not heading for an "estate disaster".
