Due to the experience garnered over his career to date, Marc is able to advise on many aspects of taxation, including complex Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), Capital Taxes Planning, Remuneration Planning and Tax Compliance.
He is able to guide clients through mitigating their tax liabilities with careful planning without the use of avoidance schemes.
Marc has successfully claimed refunds or reductions of the SDLT payable for many of our clients, including:
Frank & Marie who bought a £1.35m house in a local village a couple of months before contacting us. They paid £78,750 in SDLT costs on purchase. The house was intended to be their main residence and they sold their previous home on the same day they purchased this property. They do not own nor have any interests in other properties. The house has a small paddock and stables, a couple of large sheds and a small barn that had been converted into a residential dwelling. The converted barn has its own front door, bedroom, shower room, living area, kitchen and separate utilities.
Marc reviewed the purchase and determined that a claim could have been made for multiple dwellings relief. He prepared the necessary paperwork to make a claim for multiple dwellings relief and obtained a SDLT refund for his clients of £31,250.
Ray & Deborah were selling the house which was their only residence and purchasing a house to be their replacement residence for £700,000. The new house had a flat attached and it was their intention to let this flat until Ray's elderly parents needed to move in.
They also owned a further property worth about £300,000 which was rented out. They were concerned about the 3% additional rate of SDLT that they had heard would apply as they had more than one property. Marc was able to advise them that the 3% surcharge wouldn't apply as they were replacing their main residence. He were also able to make a claim for multiple dwellings relief due to the flat attached to the main property which further reduced the SDLT payable by £10,000.
Marc works closely with the solicitors in the Firm to ensure that solutions are provided in the most tax efficient manner whilst meeting the aim and wishes of the client. He is adept at breaking complicated tax laws down into understandable language and provides clear advice that meets our clients' needs.
